You Should Try: The Watermelon Pickle and Crispy Pork

I have to say, I really like what the Fatty Crew has done with their restaurants, which also includes Pig and Khao.  Their restaurants serve a mix of traditional Asian dishes with twists, and the food has big bold flavors.  The people working at the restaurants are chill, and the restaurants generally have a laid back vibe.  Nice work.

Watermelon Pickle and Crispy Pork

Watermelon Pickle and Crispy Pork

The Watermelon Pickle and Crispy Pork (pork belly, fresh herbs, sweet ginger; $17) is a seriously flavorful dish.  The pork belly was cooked well, with its crispy skin and mix of meat and fat.  You get the savoriness from the pork belly, the sourness of the pickled watermelon rinds, the bitterness of the fresh herbs, and the clean sweetness from the watermelon.  Just a really well-balanced and tasty dish.

Chili Crab

Chili Crab

I’ve had the real deal chili crab in Singapore, and it was one of the best dishes I’ve ever had.  Fatty Crab’s chili crab (MP; approx. $50) is tasty, but I’m not sure anything can compare to what they serve in Singapore.  Not sure if Fatty Crab’s version didn’t have enough heat or if it wasn’t sweet enough, but I found the flavor was a little off.  But then again, where else can you get chili crab in the city?

No really, that was a question.  Where else can you get chili crab in the city?
